It's THIS Weekend!!

Just a quick bit for those of you who don't yet know what KNIT OUT CROCHET is all about:

It's a one-day event for anyone who loves to knit or crochet, or is interested in stepping into the stitching-waters! It's a free event with yarn & hooks/needles on hand for use at KOC, and classes so you can learn new things, or refresh on what you already know!

KITS AVAILABLE

This year (for the beading class) there will be a limited number of kits available for purchase at cost. ($3 & $5) The kit includes the thread/wire, beads (pre-strung), a crochet hook, and instructions.

MINI-CLASSES

**Note: the times are being finalized with the teachers, and they will be listed later today (Monday). As will a list of supplies for the beading class/demo. You do not need to have these, but some stitchers have expressed a desire to bring their own supplies.**

For those of you interested in learning a bit about bead-crochet, we have a wonderful lady who’s going to teach you a great project! If you already bead-crochet, join us anyway… she will also be showing a next-step technique! Following right along will be a short beaded wire crochet class. It’s short, because it’s ever so easy! If you know the chain-stitch, you can do it!

Filet crochet will be offered, so for those of you who have never tried it before, now is the time! You can make the most lovely items using filet crochet!

Also, for you knitters who really don’t like seaming, would you like to know how to convert to knitting in the round? Then stop on by!

Don’t know how to knit? Or don’t know how to crochet? We will have several people on hand to show you how.

Stuck in the middle of a project & have ‘HELP!’ questions? There’s just got to be someone at Knit Out Crochet who can help ya out!

SHOW OFF YOUR WORK!

We’ll be having a “Fashion-Show & Tell” time, so bring a project or two that you’re proud of and would love to show off to a group of other yarn addicts!

SPEED STITCHING COMPETITION!

You’ll also want to practice your speed-stitching… there will be a competition! (I’ll get the time posted for that as well.) Fastest throwers, fastest pickers, and then pickers vs. throwers. For crocheters, fastest pencil-hold, fastest knife-hold. And of course, knife vs. pencil!

For those of you not afraid to tell your age, we’ll be looking for the oldest & youngest crocheter & knitter!

DOOR PRIZES!

We have a wonderful lady who has been gathering some great door prizes!
(Remember, you must be present to win/receive a door prize!)

We are looking forward to meeting new stitchers!

You are sure to have a wonderful time!

2009 DFW Knit Out and Crochet Event!

2009 KOC
Saturday, September 26th is the date
10am - 5pm is the time!

As in years past, it will be held at:

Half-Price Books
5803 E. Northwest Hwy
Dallas, TX 75231

map

This year's 'theme' is a patriotic one!

Our charity donations will go to our beloved Soldiers.

We will be sending afghans to combat weary soldiers through "Take a Soldier Fishing", a Combat Warrior Crisis Network.

Our Contest:

Afghans!

  • There are no size requirements, but please keep in mind that these will be given to grown men & women. (Lapghans are afghans, too!)
  • Colors, styles? Choice is yours! Camo, red/white/blue, hunting, fishing, bright colors, subdued colors, ripples, blocks.
  • The only 'requirement' is that a tag be attached to your blanket. We will have tags available for you to fill out at KOC, and we will laminate them there.
Mike Nashif (president of TaSF) has asked that we attach a tag to each afghan so that each recipient will know the afghan/lapghan was made specifically for one of them. He'd like it to be more personal, less 'manufactured'.

*NOTE: You do not have to enter the contest to donate to the charity, and you do not have to donate what you enter in the contest. The choice is yours! If you are just entering and not donating the afghan, please let us know and make sure to collect your afghan at the end of the day.

Door Prizes

We will have some wonderful door prizes! Each winner will be given a choice of prizes to choose from! We don't want someone who just crochets to get knitting needles & a knitting book, and an only-knitter doesn't have much use for a crochet book that comes with a couple of hooks! (This will also eliminate someone ending up with something that they already have!)

* Best knit

Want to help? If you want to volunteer or donate supplies, Please email us at dfwkoc@gmail.com. What do we need?
* People to be available to teach beginners to knit or crochet during the above designated times.
* Spinners- I need about 5 people with wheels & some people willing to demonstrate with a drop spindle. Bring your own fiber, but this gives you lots of spinning time. Surely people will be asking questions & watching you - if that doesn't bother you - you are perfect for this task. (I can only take the first 5 respondents, sorry)
* Spare needles & hooks - Preferably a mid-sized (7/8, G/H) - Make sure they are spares, you will likely never see them again. We will use these for beginners that didn't bring their own.
* Yarn - scraps & odd balls are perfect. We need smooth, worsted yarn to teach beginners & crazy fun yarn for the Las Vegas scarf.
